Scanning the digital techniques for advertising

Possibilities to use the web to advertise are exploding in number and nature. “Digital advertising” is so rich in possibilities that it is now an empty word as long as you do not specify what you have in mind. Here are a few of the techniques that make up the job of online advertising practitioners – please tick those you are familiar with:

  • affiliation
  • RTB
  • adservers
  • display advertising
  • post-rolls
  • adsense
  • ad exchange
  • retargeting
  • curation
  • skyscrapers

How many? More than three in  ten you do not know? Then, you’d better attend next Tuesday’s LIVErtising lecture. It’s called “The Digital Advertising Landscape”. It’ll try to structure the online advertising world in eight clear components:

Be prepared for LIVErtising 14.8

To make good notes, download and print the slides for “The Digital Landscape”. You’ll find it easier to follow the lecture and write down the explanations. If the slideshare does not respond, you’ll also find the file on our LIVErtising skydrive

Additionally, you may want to browse through the video material we’ll be using to illustrate several concepts in the digital advertising landscape. Here are two of the videos. Most of the LIVErtising videos used in the course are available on the video channel of the blog – you DID know, didn’t you?

Social media in the war on drugs in Puerto Rico

A final ingredient of the next lecture will make use of your contributions. After LIVErtising 14.1 I asked you to contribute your ideas on the Thinkpad below. With a word of thank to those who have shared their ideas there, we’re going to consider how the Puerto Rican authorities managed to have a real impact in solving the drugs-related violence problem.
