Social team work… in the clouds
Some weeks ago we discussed the evolution towards”working in the clouds”, i.e. that evolution
away from software you buy and download to install on your own computer,
to SaaS – software as a service – that you use online, with your data hosted online as well, and keeping virtually nothing on your own machine.
Good illustrations of this evolution is the increasing importance of SaaS platforms such as Google Docs (and more generally Google Apps), Zoho, or MS Office Live – the F-E-L-E-S-I-O-P-P acronym I have used repeatedly in class to sum up the spirit of participatory platforms applies here too – just try!
Technologically, this also illustrates how RIA, rich internet applications, have improved our online experience, making online work as rich as desktop work – mostly Flash, Ajax and AIR. Here I can’t resist pointing out Buzzword to you: an online Flash Word-type wordprocessor. A real gem, a pleasure to work with online.
To invite you to visit Buzzword and have a look around, I have posted our schedule for the Raz*War Elevator Pitch there in the shared “LIVErtising” folder – if you want to add your names in the list you’ll have to sign in with the following logs: “firstname.lastname@example.org” and “ihecsstudent” .
